The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reminds residents to remove their trees after Christmas or when the tree is dry. Here are some tips from the NFPA for preventing Christmas tree fires:

After Christmas

Get rid of the tree after Christmas or when it is dry. Dried-out trees are a fire danger and should not be left in the home or garage or placed outside against the house. Check with your local community to find a recycling program. Bring outdoor electrical lights inside after the holidays to prevent hazards and make them last longer.

• Electrical problems cause almost one-third of home Christmas tree fires
• Although Christmas tree fires are not common, when they do occur, they are more likely to be serious
• A heat source too close to the tree causes more than one in every five fires

Chino Christmas Tree Recycling Services

Christmas trees will be collected beginning December 26 at no additional charge. Here's more information from Waste Management:

• Trees longer than four feet tall must be cut in half
• Please remove all decorations, including tinsel, lights, ornaments, and tree stands
• Flocked trees will be collected by the trash truck but cannot be recycled
